Tony Too Tall totally tackled his top class rivals as the winter meet came to a close on Saturday, Jan. 25 at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Driven by Myles Heffernan Sr., Tony Too Tall won the $4,200 feature in a 1:56.3 mile for trainer Trevor Hicken and owner Perry Burke as the 3-1 second choice on the tote board.
It was triples all around for driver Marc Campbell and trainer Tammy Collings. Collings kicked off her day winning the fifth race in an open-length romp of 1:57 for Silver Spirit in line to 2024 O’Brien Award Future Star finalist Brady Sweet as the 2-5 favourite. Sweet is up against Todd Ratchford for the O’Brien Award at the national gala on Saturday, Feb. 8 in Mississauga, Ont.
Ideal Jet garnered the services of Marc Campbell in winning the seventh race for trainer Collings at 3-1, then the duo clicked again in the ninth with Brokeandoutofgas in 1:58.4 at 6-5 odds.
Marc Campbell also drove the Landon Campbell-trained Fern Hill Indigo to victory in 1:59 at 3-1 odds for the start of his own driving triple in Race 6.
Carnival Heart (Ryan Desroche) won the Red Shores Pace in Race 3, delivering a 1:59.1 mile as the 1-5 favourite for trainer Shayna Toll at the head of a $1,202.20 triactor ticket with Greystone Shad O (Norris Rogers) and Outrageous Song (Corey MacPherson).
Dusty Lane Zoro won the final race of the season in a 1:56.2 trip at 3-5 odds for driver Donald MacNeill and trainer Ron Gass.
Live harness racing returns to Red Shores Charlottetown on Saturday May 3, while Red Shores Summerside opens up on Victoria Day May 19.
