Booming Economy

Grand Circuit stakes winner Booming Economy made his debut for Canadian connections during the session of qualifiers on Friday, Jan. 24 at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

Now four, Booming Economy was a $180,000 Lexington Selected Yearling in 2022 and performed admirably during his two-year-old season. The blue-blooded son of Captaintreacherous - Economy Terror banked $168,190 during his rookie season for trainers Nancy Takter and Ron Burke, winning multiple PaSS events — and defeating eventual divisional champion Captain Albano — and a division of the International Stallion Stakes at The Red Mile. He finished his season with eight top-three finishes from 11 outings.

As a sophomore, Booming Economy seemingly hit a recession. Posting just a 3-1-1 summary from 21 starts, Booming Economy was sold by former connections to Brad Gray of Dundas, Ont. late in 2024. Trainer Corey Giles unveiled Booming Economy on Friday morning, and the early results show signs of rising tides.

With Trevor Henry at the controls on a chilly January morning, Booming Economy sat third behind pacesetter Points North (Jonathan Drury) through fractions of :29.2, :59.3 and 1:28.3. Booming Economy received his cue to shift gears as the field passed the three-quarter mark, and the stallion understood his assignment. Pacing home in :28.2 — co-fastest final quarter of the morning — Booming Economy breezed by his rivals for a 1:57.3 score. Larceny (Billy Davis Jr.) was next best, more than two lengths in arrears.

Judges applied a two-second variant according to Friday's conditions.
