Regina’s West Meadows Raceway (WMR) is preparing for their first year on the Saskatchewan racing circuit with hopes for success as construction nears completion

.

West Meadows Raceway, which sits atop land leased to the track for 20 years by a harness racing fan, began construction in the spring of 2008. This spring will see the construction of the facility’s clubhouse and bleachers but already horses have arrived on scene.

Currently, the track is awaiting approval for six race days this year coordinated with Yorkton and Saskatoon though it will be open for training all year long.

Glenn Le Drew, director and spokesperson of West Meadows, expressed optimism for the growth potential of the track and its reputation. “It will open the door for people to come to Regina from places within the province, and outside the province," he told News Talk 650.
