With the current track property planned for redevelopment, representatives for Northville Downs have issued a proposal for a new facility.
According to an article in Hometown Life, the proposal details building a new operation – 128 acres in scope – in northwest Plymouth Township, located south of the current Northville Downs property. Plans to move the Northville Downs property comes after the track’s land was sold in 2018 to a housing development company that intends to build neighborhoods and commercial spaces in that location.
Inside the relocation proposal, Northville Downs details building a half-mile track for harness racing along with a 4,900-square-foot grandstand, 23,000-square-foot tarmac and a 35,000-square-foot barn among other structures.
Northville Downs plans to propose the project to the Plymouth Township Planning Commission possibly as soon as February, but the commission has not yet set an agenda for February’s voting measures. If approved, the project will then go to the Plymouth Township Board of Trustees for consideration.
Despite the new building project, racing is still scheduled to go on the current Northville Downs property in 2023 from April through September.
