The betting public was onto Sweet Ana Hanover in Thursday’s $8,500 Fillies & Mares Preferred 3 for pacers at Flamboro Downs, and the distaffer didn’t disappoint.
Sent off as the 6-5 favourite in the seven-horse affair, Sweet Ana Hanover got away fourth in the early going while Filly Forty Seven marched to the lead and kicked out fractions of :28.4 and :58.1. She was still in charge at the three-quarter pole in 1:27.2, but Village Jamie was first over and driving with Sweet Ana Hanover riding her cover.
Filly Forty Seven was still in charge at the head of the lane, but the backfield was closing in. Alfie Carroll kicked off cover with Sweet Ana Hanover, and she fired home in :28.2 to win by 1-1/4 lengths over Filly Forty Seven in 1:56.3. Three Accounts enjoyed a pocket trip throughout the mile and finished third.
The six-year-old daughter of Dragon Again-Sammy Magic Girl is owned by Overseas Farms Ltd of Cambridge, Ont. The victory was the first of the season for the 10-time winner who now boasts a bankroll that stands at $96,630.
