A milestone was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 22 as Ey Cowboy won a claiming pace worth $8,000 in a massive upset at Woodbine Mohawk Park, recording the first career training victory for Janaya Gallant in the process.
Phil Hudon and Ey Cowboy settled in for the pocket ride along the rail through panels in :28.3, :58.3 and 1:27.2 behind pacesetting Too Much Duncan (Tyler Jones). No Time At All (James MacDonald) raced from the outside for majority of the mile and gained the upper hand with the lead in the final turn. Ey Cowboy pressed on to challenge him down the lane. Coming down to the photo finish at the wire, Ey Cowboy prevailed by a neck in 1:56.4 over No Time At All. Coin Flip (Doug McNair) completed the triactor.
Ey Cowboy (Brandons Cowboy-Sweet Velocity), owned by Gallant and Kearsten Steele, earned his 34th career victory from 306 lifetime starts, giving Gallant a first win career milestone. The 11-year-old veteran gelding moved his career sum to $223,692. The 50-1 stunning upset returned a $102 win ticket.
