Oakrock Almighty, with Ron Matheson driving, won the Saturday afternoon feature in gate-to-wire fashion at Red Shores Racetrack & Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park
.
Matheson decided to burst off the gate with the six-year-old black gelding and after clearing rail-sitter Blue Star Outlaw on his way to the opening quarter, laid down well rated fractions of :29, :59.1, and 1:28.1 stopping the timer in a brisk 1:58.1. The horse is owned by Jack Keenan of Stratford, P.E.I. and Joseph Dahl of Burlington, Ont., and trained by Jackie Matheson.
The father-son driver-trainer team also clicked with Keystone Dimitri in Race 14.
Blue Star Outlaw and driver Jason Hughes, who enjoyed the pocket ride, was right there for second while Incredible Mike, with Brodie MacPhee, completed the triactor.
Marc Campbell finished his winter meet at Charlottetown with three winners on the day. The 27-year-old driver will be in Toronto for the O'Brien Awards next week when the final card of the season is staged. Campbell is nominated in the Horsemanship of the Year category.
Racing returns on Saturday for the final card of the winter meet. Post time is 1 p.m.
