Even after a bold first-over move at the three-quarter pole, Ferraras Girl ($28.40), a 13-1 long shot, was able to win in a romp Wednesday at Pompano Park in the feature trot.
The $8,500 seventh race trot saw Better By Design (driven by Bruce Ranger) go right after the early lead with Rovasreadytorumble (Wally Hennessey) grabbing the two-hold spot by the opening quarter mile in :28.1.
They raced past the half mile pole in :58.1 and Hennessey with Rovasreadytorumble unexpectedly pulled the pocket trip and shot by Ferraras Girl to take the lead just as Ferraras Girl and driver/trainer Raymond Vizzi came rushing up first-over at the three-quarters in 1:28.
Parked out on the final turn, Ferraras Girl had plenty in the tank as the six-year-old mare by Victory’s Force pulled away from the field to win by six open lengths in 1:57.3. Blushfire (Richard Simard) was second with Rovasreadytorumble third.
It was the first win this year for Giuseppe Lanni’s Ferraras Girl.
