The betting public was all over Rose Run Ranger in Monday’s $8,500 Preferred 3 for horse and gelding pacers, and the odds-on choice didn’t disappoint his army of pari-mutuel backers.

J Harris got away third with Rose Run Ranger while Tuition Money marched to the lead and carved out the opening quarter of :29. Tuition Money was still the leader through middle splits of :59.1 and 1:27.4, but Rose Run Ranger was first-over and driving against the pacesetter.

Rose Run Ranger and Tuition Money were still battling at the head of the lane, but Rose Run Ranger delivered a late, knockout punch to Tuition Money and wound up beating that foe by a length in 1:57.3. NJs Trick Pistol tracked cover and wound up rallying to finish third.

Trainer Matthew McDonald co-owns the six-year-old son of Major In Art-A And Gs Finest with Sebastien Quesnel. The gelding won for the 19th time in his career while pushing his lifetime earnings over $105,000.
