A fantastic group of pacers will contest the Preferred Pace on Saturday (Jan. 21) as live harness racing continues at Red Shores Racetrack and Casino at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
The capital oval has 12 dashes scheduled for a 12:30 p.m. opening post time on the Saturday card.
In the $3,300 featured pace, slated as the 11th race, Mantario is the morning line favourite with David Dowling at the lines from post three for co-owner and trainer Jennifer Doyle and co-owner Danny Birt of Earnscliffe. The Sportswriter seven-year-old closed hard to finish second in the first Preferred Pace of the calendar year on Jan. 7. Blood Money was the winner that day and gets post five on Saturday for trainer-driver Marc Campbell.
Stash It Away has been rock solid since moving up to the top class from his three-year-old campaign with the Pang Shui gelding drawing post four this week for driver Gilles Barrieau.
Burn Out Hanover was an open-length winner in the back-up class last week for the combo of driver Brady Sweet and trainer Jeff Holmes and moves back up in class to get post two this week. Rail control belongs to Spack Jarrow, to be driven by Corey MacPherson.
The Post Time Picks like Mantario on top of their tickets.
“He raced great last time out grinding first up and just missing in a photo finish. Slides into post three and Dowling will have him in the mix when they swing for home, so we'll call for the win this time."
Red Shores will continue to offer the new Isle Pick 5 on the first five races with a $1,500 guaranteed pool and low 15% take-out. Players will also enjoy two Super Hi5’s and a late Pik4 on the program.
