With an impressive brush down the backside, Howmacfiesty finally connected for her first win the Fillies & Mares Preferred ranks on Saturday (January 20) at Flamboro Downs.
After drawing the outer most post, Howmacfiesty was settled away in seventh (and last) by driver J Harris in the Saturday feature race. Favoured Mach Magic (Colin Kelly) carved the early fractions of :28.1 and :58.1 before facing a threat in the form of Ten Carat (Robert Shepherd).
At the halfway point, Howmacfiesty was third over and less than five lengths from the front. Harris tipped his mare three-wide down the backstretch and started to gain ground on the leaders as Mach Magic and Ten Carat traded blows through a 1:26.3 third panel. Relentless in pursuit, Howmacfiesty turned a two-length defecit at three quarters into a quarter-length margin by the head of the stretch. Howmacfiesty willingly powered past the pacesetter en route to a two-plus length decision over pylon-skimming pocket sitter Jens Credit (Alfie Carroll) in 1:56.3. Mach Magic completed the triactor, three lengths in arrears.
Jack Harris of Hagersville trains and owns Howmacfiesty (Carnivore - Bradelle), now a winner of 17 lifetime races with more than $112,000 in career earnings.
