Emeritus Maximus Tops January Mixed Sale

A trio of horses sold for more than $200,000 during Monday’s January Select Mixed Sale at The Meadowlands, with Emeritus Maximus coming away as the sale topper.

Selling as Hip 183, Emeritus Maximus was purchased by Cancelliere Bros. of Bloomfield, New Jersey for $248,000. The four-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover-Eternitys Delight, who was a winner in 1:50.2 on January 18 at The Meadowlands, put away close to $250,000 during last year’s sophomore campaign. The runner-up in last year’s Anthony Abbatiello New Jersey Classic took a mark of 1:48.4 last season in his elimination of the Max C. Hempt Memorial at Pocono Downs.

Hip 220 Appomattox was collared by LISA VATANEN, Cream Ridge, New Jersey for $240,000. The five-year-old son of Yankee Glide-Courtney Hall banked just shy of $100,000 last season and has stashed away $408,686 to date.

Hip 210 Wake Up Peter was purchased for $210,000 by Ray Remmen of East Rutherford, New Jersey. The four-year-old son of Rocknroll Hanover-Lovely Lady, who was a winner in 1:51.1 at The Meadowlands on January 18, put away more than $300,000 in earnings last year despite going 0-for-19. The three-time winner was the third-place finisher in the 2013 Pepsi North America Cup at Mohawk Racetrack.

Hip 116 Big Mcdeal was purchased by Steve Jones of Montgomery, New York for $125,000. The five-year-old daughter of Mcardle-Ideal Gal, who is a multiple stakes winner, is an 11-time winner with earnings in excess of $800,000. She took a lifetime mark of 1:49.1 during her three-year-old season in a division of the Pennsylvania Sires Stakes at The Meadows.

Buyers shelled out $5,971,500 over the course of the day for a combination of stallion shares and racehorses.
