Spurofthehauer’s 2:00.3 triumph in the opener got the ball rolling for the brothers, and stablemate The Steelman gave them the Daily Double sweep thanks to his 1:56.3 score in Race 2.
Sleek Hunter completed the hat trick for the Allards thanks to his 1:56.1 victory in the $13,000 Preferred for pacers. The five-year-old son of Four Starzzz Shark-Beverage overcame early interference to take the six-horse affair by 1-1/2 lengths over Hoboken Hanover. Third prize was earned by Sunset Art.
Sent off as the even-money favourite, Sleek Hunter prevailed for the ninth time in his career and for the first time since being claimed for $25,000 plus allowances late last season. The career winner of $164,119 is owned by the Quebec partnership of Rene Allard, Gest Millenium 2000 Inc and Jean Guy Bruneau.
