Rebeka Bayama Reigns In Mares Open

Rebeka Bayama continued her dominance over Woodbine Racetrack's Open Mares this winter as she cruised wire-to-wire in this week's $42,000 event giving her a perfect two-for-two record in early 2012

Hammered down to odds of 1-9, the popular pacing princess left from Post 4 in her Friday night assignment and led the six-horse field through panels of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:25.1 en route to the easy 1:53 score. Voelz Hanover (Mario Baillargeon) followed one length behind off a pocket trip while Didrickson (Randy Waples) edged out first over Keepers Destiny (Paul MacDonell) for third.

Sylvain Filion drove the five-year-old Leader Bayama-Joyce Bayama mare to victory for trainer Justin Filion and owner-breeder Bayama Farms Inc. of Saint-Andre-D'Argenteuil, Que. The career winner of $333,928 now boasts a lifetime record reading 18-6-2 in 31 outings.

Rebeka Bayama paid $2.30 to win.
