Racing news out of Ohio has been on the forefront this week, and the most recent development is that Penn National Gaming Inc. is contemplating moving Toledo harness track Raceway Park and Columbus thoroughbred facility Beulah Park to another location within the state
.
According to a report by The Toledo Blade, Penn National is building a $250 million casino, to be called 'Hollywood Toledo,' in East Toledo.
The article cites Penn National spokesman Bob Tenenbaum as saying that he expected a decision regarding the two racetracks to be made soon. The company would need the permission of the Ohio Racing Commission before it would be able to relocate the raceways.
The report quotes Tenenbaum as saying, "It's obviously no secret that all racetracks in Ohio are suffering economic difficulty," and that "a decision has to be made about what would be best for racing in Ohio and state revenues."
