Since relocating from the barn of trainer Nancy Takter to the stable of conditioner Harry Poulton the photogenic Looks Like Moni has gone undefeated in four straight starts after going a combined three-for-25 for his previous connections.
In the Monday evening main event at the Campbellville, Ont. oval, Looks Like Moni brushed to the lead from Post 4 for driver Anthony MacDonald and together they led the field through first-half fractions of :27.4 and :57.1. The gelding battled with the first-over HP Mama B around the final turn, and that favourite showed a short lead past the three-quarter pole in 1:26.
Those two continued their battle into the lane, but in deep stretch it was Looks Like Moni who used his closing quarter of :28.3 to put away the favourite and then fend off the late charges of others to win in 1:54.3. A lapped-on second was White Tiger, with the show dough going to Run Director.
The four-year-old son of Muscle Hill-Thats All Moni, who is owned by Thestable Looks Like Moni of Guelph, Ont., lifted his lifetime earnings to $239,049 with the victory.
