Favourite Electrofire, driven by Brian Sears, repeated as the champion of the chalk players Saturday night, winning Yonkers Raceway's $35,000 Open Handicap Pace.

Unhurried early from post position No. 6, Electrofire watched as River Shark (Mark MacDonald) and Something For Doc (Matt Kakaley) played leapfrog on the lead around a :27.2 opening quarter-mile.

'Doc' found a :55.3 intermission as Electrofire, sitting sixth, was the first to move. He wound up third-over behind Here We Go Again (George Brennan) and Saint William A (Larry Stalbaum) as Something For Doc found a 1:23.4 three-quarters.

The leader had a length and a quarter advantage into the lane, but the walls were closing in. Electrofire was wide and strong, closing from sixth and winning by a length and a half in 1:52.4. Second went to Saint William A, with a rallying Great Vintage (Eric Goodell) third. Something For Doc and Here We Go Again rounded out the payees.

For reformed claimer Electrofire, a six-year-old son of Electric Stena co-owned by West Wins Stable and Dave Miller and trained by Casie Coleman, he returned $5.50 for his second win in three seasonal starts. The exacta paid $28, with the triple returning $255.

Sears, by the way, sublet the winner's circle the past three nights to the tune of 14 winners (four Thursday, five each Friday and Saturday).
