The riches-to-rags-to-riches saga of Anders Bluestone continued with a second-straight victory in the $23,000 Open Handicap Trot on Wednesday, January 18 at Dover
Downs.
Anders Bluestone, a stakes winner as a juvenile, was then relegated to the claiming ranks due to injuries and then rejuvenated when claimed for $25,000 at Chester a year and a half ago by Ken Wood and Bill Dittmar. The now $641,975 winning six-year-old, by Yankee Glide out of Annette Hanover, won for the third time in his last four starts and twice in the Dover Open Trot. After starting from the handicap Post 7, he came from off the pace to chalk up a 1:54.3 victory with Ross Wolfenden at the controls for trainer Eric Ell. The Budster (Ron Pierce) gave a game effort to finish second with Lets Get Serious N (George Dennis) third.
Meet leading driver Corey Callahan guided Maravich to a 1:55.4 triumph in the $15,500 secondary trot feature. Mike Casalino and trainer Dylan Davis own the Lockkepper-Rompaway Butch gelding. Heezahumer (Ross Wolfenden) was runner-up with Allahamerican Cheer (Brad Hanners) the third-place finisher.
Owner-trainer Arty Foster’s Spunky Vic won the $14,000 trot in 1:56.4 with Matt Kakaley in the bike. A Valley Victor-B Cor Spunky gelding, Spunky Vic made up for a costly break at the start last time to pick up his first win of the new year. Blueridge Empire (Corey Braden) was runner-up. Go Nano Go (Eddie Davis Jr.) was the show horse.
Ross Wolfenden won three races including both parts of the Daily Double.
