The betting public was all aboard Platoon Seelster’s bandwagon in Tuesday’s $11,000 Preferred 2 for trotters, and the OSS grad passed the test with flying colours for Team Holliday.
Driver by Ryan Holliday, Platoon Seelster marched to the lead from Post 2 and sliced out splits of :29.2, 1:01 and 1:30 before using a :29.4 kicker to win by three lengths over Little Red Chev in 1:59.4. Escuela got away last before rallying to grab the show dough in the six-horse affair.
Sent off as the 7-5 favourite, the Dave Holliday-trained five-year-old son of Holiday Road-Personal Hanover posted the victory for owners Caroline Holliday of Mount Forest and Dennis Hannath of Harriston, Ont. It was the 10th lifetime tally for the career winner of $308,195.
The $7,500 Preferred 3 for trotters went to P C Dream Ticket in come-from-behind fashion.
Curtis Clements crossed over to grab a five-hole trip in the early going with the gelding while Delcrest Massy fired to the top and supplied the field with fractions of :28.2, :59.3 and 1:28.4. Kennel Buddy came first-over on the way to the half, and P C Dream Ticket was quick to latch onto a second over trip behind that foe.
Delcrest Massy and Kennel Buddy were noses apart around the final turn, and their battle set it up perfectly for the stalking P C Dream Ticket. Clements cut his charge loose in the lane and the seven-year-old son of Cornaro Dasolo-P C Dreams drew clear to win by 2-1/2 lengths over Kennel Buddy in 2:00.4. Race favourite Delcrest Massy held on to finish third.
Sent off at odds of 6-1, P C Dream Ticket won for the ninth time in his career for owner/breeder/trainer Peter Clements of Dobbinton, Ont. The lion’s share of the loot lifted his lifetime earnings over $100,000.
