The nine-year-old Revenue S gelding My Revenuer proved he’s not so 'Over-The-Hill' as he captured his fourth straight win in Pompano Park’s 'Over-The-Hill Gang' trot for eight-year-olds and up.
Driven by Brad Kramer for owner-trainer Tom Petri, My Revenuer wired together three identical panels of :28.4 to kick things off before a closing panel of :29 sealed the deal as he crossed the line in 1:55.2, pinning a 4-1/4 length defeat on the late charging 13-year-old gelding Rush N Supreme, handled by Mitchell “Sky” Walker.
Ramzan, with Andy Santeramo controlling the lines, was third after a brief first up bid on the backside while PCs Wildcard, prominent through the mile, wound up fourth and last in the quartet.
After the race, the soft-spoken Kramer said, “talk about a gamer, this one is all gamer. The first time I drove him this meet he had the nine post and made a break leaving but he recovered to get a check, so he showed me something that night.
“Since then, he’s been very sharp winning four of his last five—now five of this last six after tonight.
“Ya know, he can really cover some ground from off the pace but, last week, I wanted to get him in the game early from an outside post and he proved to me that he can race any way.
“Tonight, in the short field, and since Tom (trainer Petri) has him so sharp, I thought I’d get him to the top and he was solid all the way, never let up a step until it was all over!”
“The only thing I would like to change on him is the owner…because I’d like to own him. He’s a great old bird.”
My Revenuer won for the 31st time during his career spanning 180 starts pushing his lifetime bounty to $237,059.
Off officially at 1-10, My Revenuer paid $2.20 to win.
The win for Kramer, incidentally, pushed his lifetime total to 7,983—only 17 away from the coveted 8,000 milestone.
Racing continues on Tuesday night with Tater Twister seeking his fourth consecutive win in the $12,000 Open Handicap Trot. Despite being assigned the outside seven post, Tater Twister has been installed as the 5-2 morning line favourite and will have the driving services of Mike Simons, handling the lines for trainer Mike Murphy.
Pompano Park will also offer a $10,000 guaranteed pool on the Pick-4, which carries a minimal takeout of 12%.
Post time is set for 7:20 p.m.
