Cash On Delivery Pays Off

Cash On Delivery was strongest in the stretch delivering a 1:55 triumph in the $23,000 Open Handicap Trot at Dover Downs on Wednesday, January 16.

Eric Carlson had a four-bagger while North American leader Corey Callahan, Ron Pierce and owner-trainer Josh Green had three winners each.

Trainer-driver Vince Copeland moved Cash On Delivery four-wide around the final turn then wore down leader Sea Raven (Vic Kirby) in deep stretch while holding off fast finishing E L Rock (Eric Carlson) nearing the finish line. The win was the third of the meet to go with two seconds and a third since the meet began. David Miller owns the Cash Hall-Direct Dial gelding that has won $150,752 in his career.

In the $16,000 Winners-Over trot, Hes Spooky rolled home a 1:55.1 winner giving Eric Carlson his second of four winning drives. Owned by Howard Taylor, Alan Kaplan, Rojan and LA Express stables, the six-year-old son of Cantab Hall - Yankee Topaz, won for the third time this meet for trainer Mike Hall of the Doug
Lewis Stable. Trojan Horse (Tim Tetrick) emerged from the pack at the top of the lane to finish second. Awsome Valley finished third but was disqualified for interfering with Tagyoureit Hanover (Ross Wolfenden) in the stretch.

Eric Carlson led all drivers with four winners while Corey Callahan had three wins to build his world leading total for 2013 to 46 victories. Ron Pierce and owner-trainer Josh Green had a triple. With two wins were trainer Mike Hall of the Doug Lewis Stable, Leigh Raymer and owner Stephen Moss.
