When veteran pacer Acceptable Risk makes the lead, more often than not he’s going to take it to the house
. That’s exactly what happened in Monday’s $15,000 Preferred at the Raceway at Western Fair District.
With Trevor Henry barking out orders from the racebike, Acceptable Risk shot to the lead from Post 3 and successfully carved out panels of :28.4, :58 and 1:26.1 before using a :29.4 final frame to hold on for the half-length score over Allamerican Motive in 1:56. Race favourite Part Shark was third best in the six-horse tilt.
Dan Morrissey trains the hard-hitting nine-year-old son of Intrepid Seelster-Southernbound Lady for David Morrissey of Ailsa Craig along with Dan McCann and William Woodburn of Parkhill, ON. The 47-time winner has raked in more than $680,000 in lifetime earnings to date.
Deuces And Jacks prevailed in the $11,000 Preferred-2 for pacers, and he tore a page out of Acceptable Risk’s playbook to score the win. Paul MacLean sent the France MacLean trainee to the lead and after supplying splits of :27.2, :56 and 1:24.3 the gelding held on to win by half a length in 1:56. Button Up was a bang-up second, with Shadywood Baron rallied to finish third.
Sent off as the 3-5 favourite, Deuces And Jacks won for the 32nd time in his career. The eight-year-old son of Million Dollar Cam-Fit N Fast, who has stashed away close to $500,000 in his career, is owned by Paul MacLean of Chelmsford and Glenview Livestock Ltd of Wallenstein, ON.
