Glenis Egginton of Meadowcroft Farm told Trot Insider this afternoon that Jayport Whimsey, dam of $1.9 million earner Abbey Road C

, had to be euthanized Monday, January 12.

Egginton said that the Balanced Image mare had to be put down due to extreme lameness. The 17-year-old bay was unraced and had sustained a serious leg injury in her younger years. Egginton said that Jayport Whimsey, who produced nine babies in her career, recently lost a foal.

"She had a Kadabra foal that she lost last week," Egginton told Trot Insider. "She always had that really serious leg injury -- anyone who had ever known her was well aware of it. The lameness just got too serious and we had no choice but to put her down."

Egginton said that the youngest of Jayport Whimsey's offspring is a Mr Lavec yearling named Madame Defarge. Bred and raised by Tom & Roger Porchak of Woodstock, Ont., Jayport Whimsey was owned by Ken & James Meyer of St. Clements, Ont.
