Some class relief and an aggressive approach by teamster Louis Philippe Roy helped propel veteran trotter Mister Herbie to a 1:56.2 triumph in Monday’s featured trot at Woodbine Racetrack.
Roy pressed for the early lead Mister Herbie who took command at the quarter pole in :27.4. Fearless Man popped off the rail from third and went after the leader, but Roy hung that foe out to dry past the half in :57.2. Mister Herbie grabbed some separation from the others around the final turn, and he marched past the three-quarter marker in 1:27.2. A final quarter in :29 earned Mister Herbie the win by 3-1/4 lengths over Free Willy Hanover in 1:56.2. Wild And Crazy Guy rounded out the trifecta ticket.
Trainer Jeff Gillis co-owns the 10-year-old son of Here Comes Herbie-Independent Lassie with Gerald Stay of Buffalo, NY. The partners celebrated the 22nd lifetime victory with the career winner of $1,910,312.
