Once Dunmore Alpha made the lead, he scooted away to an open-length victory in the $1,400 Open Handicap Trot on Saturday at Red Shores at Charlottetown Driving Park

.

After leaving from Post 7 over a slow track rated two second off, Dunmore Alpha and driver Mark Cullen took control at the :30.1 opening quarter and opened up on the eight-horse field as he cruised past middle fractions of 1:00.4 and 1:31.4. The eight-year-old gelding crossed the wire in 2:03.3 with five and a quarter lengths to spare. Hall Trot (Todd Walsh) closed from the backfield to place while Wine Merchant (Joey Pineau) journeyed first over to show.

Dunmore Alpha paid $7.20 to win as the second choice. Edward Smallwood trains and owns the son of Black River-Princess Victory, who is now two-for-three in 2011. Dunmore Alpha notched his 33rd career win and pushed his earnings over the $60,000 mark.

Electric Moves used the passing lane to mow down leader Blue Star Outlaw to win the Saturday afternoon $1,900 feature pace in 2:00.4.

Walter Cheverie engineered the winning trip for owner-trainer Paul Holmes of Cornwall, P.E.I. Cheverie sat fifth en route to the opening quarter before following Life Savior (Marc Campbell), who came first up, as the field came off the top turn for the half. The brown gelding tracked cover in second over flow approaching the three-quarter station.

Then Matt Trapper (Brian Andrew) went to the outside to join the leaders so Cheverie decided to duck back down to the rail behind pacesetter Blue Star Outlaw (Jason Hughes). As the group straitened in the lane, Electric Moves came up the passing lane to win turning back Life Savior with Matt Trapper finishing third.

The fractions of the mile were 30.1, 101.1 and 1:30.4.

The six-year-old son of Western Hanover-Electrical Express recorded his second win in three starts this year and 19th overall. His lifetime earnings now stand at $56,782.

Lady Kelliegh Ann kept her winning streak alive (four wins) with an eight-length victory in 2:01.3 for driver-trainer Earl Smith and owner-breeder Russ Doyle of London, Ont.
