P L Oliver proved unbeatable in the $12,000 Preferred Pace on Tuesday, Jan. 14 at The Raceway at Western Fair District, securing a decisive wire-to-wire victory.

The 2-1 second choice, P L Oliver, wasted no time in establishing control for driver Travis Henry. He took the lead early and confidently dictated the pace through fractions of :28.2, :59, and 1:28. As the field neared the final turn, favoured It Takes Two (Lorne House) mounted a strong challenge, closing in on the leader with every stride. Despite the late pressure, P L Oliver remained steadfast in the stretch and held on to win the top class by 1-1/4 lengths in a time of 1:58.4. It Takes Two finished a strong second, while Drinkin Buddy (Sam Fillion) fended off late challengers to claim third.

P L Oliver, a seven-year-old gelding by Sportswriter out of P L Gotcha, is trained by Lindsey Kerr and owned by Alan Janik and Sally Charlton. He paid $6.70 to win.

This victory marks lifetime win number 25 for P L Oliver, who now boasts a bankroll of $260,708.
