A jump in class didn’t stop P L Jill from making a round trip to victory lane Monday evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The six-year-old daughter of Kadabra-Fridays Gem, who rallied to an impressive-looking score in 1:54.1 on January 7, ascended to the Preferred ranks and survived a first-over trip to win in an equally impressive clocking of 1:54.3.
Sylvain Filion got away fourth with P L Jill while Cue Hall and Dancer Hall battled to the quarter pole in :28.2. Dancer Hall cleared, but was then overtaken in the backstretch by Dunbar Hall.
Filion sent P L Jill first-over going to the half, and the mare found herself chasing Dunbar Hall past the mid-way point in :57.1. They continued their tussle to the three-quarter pole in 1:26.2, but Dunbar Hall miscued as the field swung into the stretch. P L Jill shook loose and went on to win by a half-length margin over Dancer Hall. Free Willy Hanover rallied from far back to finish third.
Ben Baillargeon, who recently took over the training on the 17-time winner, watched her push her lifetime earnings to $250,833 with the victory. She is owned by Prince Lee Acres, Jill Coleman and Alan Christensen.
