‘Syl’s $20 Win Mutuel Tops Truro Card

A compact, six-dash card went postward on Sunday (January 14) at Truro Raceway, and the Paul Langille-driven Electric Syl produced the largest win mutuel of the afternoon, as the 10-year-old Electric Stena gelding clicked at odds of 9-1 and returned $20.60 to win.

The duo started from Post 4 in the six-horse dash (Race 3) and opted to sit fourth through the :30.3 opening quarter. The duo made the lead before the 1:01.1 opening half-mile call and proceeded to march down to the three-quarters marker in 1:31.2.

Electric Syl had a four-length lead at the head of the stretch, and went to hang on for a one-length win in 2:02.2. The race was contested over a track rated ‘good’ and one second slow.

It was the Ernie Laffin-driven Prince Adam that made things interesting late, as the Real Artist gelding fired three-high from the backfield and gobbled up real estate before finishing just a length back. The Robert Laffin-driven Saulsbrook Quick finished further back in third.

Electric Syl, who is owned by Andrea Rennison (of Truro, NS) and Cathy Benedict (Valley, NS) has recorded 29 wins from 234 career starts and has banked over $61,000 in purses.

Langille won the first three races on the card, as he had won previously with Iswhatitis ($7.40) in Race 1 and Western Scot ($5.30) in Race 2.
