"We want to bring it back and push it to the forefront and hopefully give the tracks something more than they can push to their local media, and advertise and promote on their local in-house shows that these races are Grand Circuit races and that it is special, and it's a big deal to be racing in them for owners, trainers and drivers."
On today's episode of Trot Radio, Norm Borg goes one-on-one with John Campbell, the President of harness racing's Grand Circuit. Campbell notes that official announcements on plans to enhance and promote some of the sport's marquee events will be made on the Grand Circuit at the Harness Racing Congress in March.
"I think [the Grand Circuit name] has been underutilized, let's put it that way. I think we have to bring back more awareness to the Grand Circuit, to the Grand Circuit name and what it means. I think it's been out of the minds of people for a few years."
While admitting the announcement isn't "earth-shattering" Campbell feels this "reconfiguration of what the Grand Circuit is all about" should help the industry garner attention for its open class events.
