Tomorrow morning's qualifiers at Mohawk Racetrack will feature a familiar face in a new role as second generation horseman Scott Young will make his driving debut
.
The 18-year-old son of renowned horseman Bob Young is listed in five races, and the younger Young is thrilled to finally line up behind the gate.
"I'm really excited about finally becoming a driver," Young told Trot Insider. "This is only stage one, but I really appreciate all the trainers and owners that are giving me a chance to be successful.
"If everything goes well on Thursday I will be very happy."
With his childhood dream of becoming a harness racing driver realized, the Sherdian College Broadcast Journalism student and Guelph, Ont. resident will try to balance school with his rookie driving campaign.
"My goal this year is to try to win as many races as I possibly can," said Young. "I still have to focus on college, that's for sure, but if i can have a pretty decent 2010 I will be happy."
For a decent 2010, Young certainly has himself well positioned. In 2009, Young worked with horses such as Tracy Brainard trainee If I Can Dream (pictured above at Delaware County Fair warming up for the Little Brown Jug).
