Credit Con opened a sizable lead but had to hold off two challengers late to secure his 10-1 upset in the $28,266 Open Handicap Trot on Friday, Jan. 12 at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Credit Con was ahead by 2-1/2 lengths turning for home but then faced the looming Emeralds Legacy and Tequila Talkin, both circling from the back of the pack. Brady Brown kept the Yonkers invader to his task, and he downed Emeralds Legacy by three parts of a length in 1:54.1 over a “good” surface. Tequila Talkin finished third.
Jennifer Bongiorno trains the six-year-old Credit Winner-Jesses Con gelding, who now boasts a career bankroll of $475,719, for Ben Mondello.
Dave Palone piloted three winners on the 13-race card, including a pair for trainer Johnny Yoder, while Ronnie Wrenn Jr. also collected three victories, two of them for trainer Michael Burke.
Live harness racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday when the program features a $1,004.62 carryover in the Pick 5. First post is 12:45 p.m.
