Hoboken Hanover survived a first-over journey for driver Ted McDonald en route to taking home top prize in Thursday’s $13,000 Preferred for pacers at Rideau
Carleton Raceway.
The five-year-old son of Cams Card Shark-Haps Hanover got away last in the group of five while Bolero Charles threw down fractions of :28.3, :59.3 and 1:29.2 over the snow-covered surface. Hoboken Hanover, who was first-over at the mid-way point, dug in deep and managed to score the half-length victory over Haul Away in 1:59. Bolero Charles was three-quarters of a length back in third.
McDonald trains the gelding for partners Lloyd Stone of Portland and Dr. John Tobin of Elgin, ON. It was the 16th lifetime victory for the pacer, who is now 2-for-2 in 2012. The lion’s share of the purse lifted his earnings to $150,929.
