Twelve-year-old trotter JL Cruze proved that you're never too old to have fun after winning in his second consecutive start at Bally's Dover on Tuesday evening (Jan. 10) in the $18,000 Winners Over/Select Trot.
In the same fashion as last week's score, JL Cruze (Art Stafford Jr.) won the early battle for the lead, forcing Northern Express into the pocket and Highland Mowgli into third through the :27.1 opening panel. Just past the :56.1 half, Highland Mowgli motored on the outside to challenge leading JL Cruze. The pair battled alongside each other through the three-quarters in 1:24.2. In the stretch, JL Cruze dug deep, winning in 1:54 by a neck. Northern Express (Russell Foster) closed from the pocket trip, finishing second. Judge Bob (Pat Berry) finished third.
Kenneth Wood, Bill Dittmar Jr., and Stephen Iaquinta own JL Cruze. The son of Crazed is trained by Eric Ell.
Tony Morgan drove four winners on the card. Trainer Shea Lare, owner Frank Chick and driver Pat Berry each posted triples.
Wednesday's (Jan. 11) feature race at Bally's Dover is the Mares Open Handicap Pace with Incaseyoudidntknow taking on Majorca N and Always B First. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
