Sterling Cooper dominated his Open rivals over a 'sloppy' track with a wire-to-wire performance in the $10,500 feature on Sunday, January 10 at Fraser Downs.

Sterling Cooper quickly crossed to command from the outside post six and cruised through panels of :28.3, :58.3 and 1:26.2 uncontested en route to the one length triumph in 1:56 flat for trainer/driver Bill Davis.

Sent postward at odds of 6-1, the winner returned $14.10 for a $2 investment. Chewy Baca (Travis Bowman), the 3-2 favourite after his Open victory last weekend, rallied home from off the pace to finish second over pocket-sitter Comes Home First (Jim Marino).

The win was Sterling Cooper's 32nd lifetime and pushed his earnings to $213,523. Davis co-owns the eight-year-old Camluck gelding with Jeff Elchuk of Surrey, B.C. Last year, Sterling Cooper accumulated 10 wins from 31 starts and nearly $80,000 in purse earnings. Among his 2015 victories was a 1:50.2 track record mile at Fraser Downs.

The Open victory was the second win on the 13-race card for Davis. John Abbott and Jim Marino also had driving doubles while Brandon Campbell led all horsemen on the Sunday program steering three winners from his stable.
