On Saturday, January 8, Prairie Meadows rejected a new eight-year lease proposed by the Polk County, Iowa, board which controls it.
Prairie Meadows’ chief financial officer Brian Wessels said, “The way the county proposal is structured, it’s not viable for us.”
Track board member Jack Peters, part of Prairie’s negotiating team, told desmoinesregister.com that the proposed arrangement would potentially lower cash flow and “just makes things too tight. When you put it into a spreadsheet, it leaves us too vulnerable.”
