Stablemates Mcapulco and Flora Dream took home the top prize in their respective $14,800 Preferred tilts at Western Fair Raceway on Monday, and for Flora Dream the clocking in her assignment earned her a share of the half-mile oval’s track record
for older trotting mares.
In rein to driver Doug McNair for trainer David Menary, Flora Dream froze the teletimer in 1:57.2 – a clocking that matched the track standard established by Must Sold Dream on November 27, 2006.
The pari-mutuelly popular seven-year-old daughter of Taurus Dream sat third to the quarter pole before jetting to the front and laying down middle splits of :58.2 and 1:27.1 before cruising home in :30.1 en route to the two-length triumph over Indiana Hall. Merited Victory rallied from far back to claim a third-place cheque.
Leo Tourigny of Becancour, QC and Lapharmaciedekedgwick Inc of Kedgwick, NB share ownership on the 25-time winner, who upped her lifetime earnings to $319,028.
Mcapulco, who lowered his lifetime record to 1:51.3 winning at Woodbine on December 27, made his first start of the 2011 campaign a winning one for the duo of McNair and Menary. The six-year-old son of Mcardle slipped up the rail to nail pacesetter Clowns Smile in the $14,800 Preferred Pace.
Clowns Smile hammered out panels of :28.1, :58.2 and 1:27.1 before giving way to Mcapulco in the closing strides. Monster In Law survived a first-over trip and went home with the show dough.
Burke Racing Stable LLC of Fredericktown and Weaver Bruscemi LLC of Canonsburg, PA share the ownership on the 15-time winner, who has stashed away earnings of $202,631 to date.
Pacific Oak rallied from out of the clouds to capture the $10,000 Preferred-2 Pace for driver Paul MacKenzie and trainer Ken Oliver. The eight-year-old son of Pacific Rocket, who was still sitting seventh turning for home, used a :28.3 closing panel to post the 1-1/4 lengths score over XLB Patrick in 1:57.2. Pacific Prince was third.
Shirley and Kerry House of St. Jacobs, ON hold the ownership papers on the 23-time winner. The victory boosted his overall cash stash to $198,547.
Long Ago went down the road en route to taking home top honours in the $10,000 Preferred-2 Trot for the team of driver Bruce Richardson and trainer John Holding. The six-year-old son of Duke Of York sliced out splits of :28.2, :59.3 and 1:29.2 before sailing home in :30.1 for the 1:59.3 decision. Dashing Earl was next best, and Sonny Vale rounded out the top three.
Holding shares ownership on the O.S.S. graduate with Bryan Montgomery of Fergus, ON. The gelding won for the 15th time in his career while pushing his bankroll to $180,501.
