A drop from the Open ranks to the Preferred level paid off handsomely for Hyperion Hanover on Saturday evening at Woodbine Racetrack, as the speedy son of Camluck found his way to the winner’s circle for the first time this season for trainer Rob Fellows.
With Rick Zeron at the helm, Hyperion Hanover blasted to immediate command from Post 8 and had most of the field lined up behind him at the quarter pole in :26.1. Zeron allowed Astreos Flash, who was parked in the opening turn, to rush to the lead before popping right back out and reclaiming the top spot.
The gelding fired off middle panels of :55.4 and 1:25.2 before kicking home in :28.3 en route to the 1:54 score. He held off runner-up Escapable Beaux by a neck. Whippet Good finished well to grab the show spot.
Hyperion Hanover, who is owned by S S G Stables of North Boston, NY, has 22 lifetime victories to his credit in addition to $616,293 in earnings.
