One trotter got the new year going in the right direction for longshot players on Thursday night, upsetting a field at odds of 134-1.
Sky Lav powered up from the back of the pack in Northfield Park's ninth race of 2015, followed across the wire by #9 Cabo (3-5) and #4 Tallerthanwoody (31-1).
Sky Lav returned $269.80 to win; the 8-9 Exacta paid $698.20 and the 8-9-4 Trifecta returned a whopping $6,568.80.
Wooster, Ohio’s Henry Beachy trains and co-owns the six year-old trotter with Mark Scheibe of Lakeville, Ohio. Tyler St. Louis was aboard for the winning drive, giving Sky Lav’s his seventh lifetime victory.
Although Sky Lav’s score sparked massive returns, it is not even close to being the highest win payoff in Northfield Park’s history. That record remains with Jets Appearance and driver Sheri Hersman. They paid $579 to win on August 22, 1988.
