Pick Doug McNair's Canadian Colours!

Wearing your country’s colours in an international sporting event is a proud moment for any athlete and Standardbred Canada would like members and racing fans to help select the driving colours for our National Driving Champion, Doug McNair, who will represent Canada in the 2019 World Driving Championship in Sweden this May.

McNair, Canada’s Driver of the Year in 2017, and a winner of nearly 3,200 races and in excess of $51 million in purse earnings during his career, will be joined in Sweden by defending WDC Champion, James MacDonald. MacDonald won the 2017 WDC hosted in Canada and will be representing the International Trotting Association and wearing ITA colours.

McNair earned the opportunity to represent Canada by winning the 2018 National Driving Championship (NDC) presented by Standardbred Canada at Grand River Raceway in Elora, Ont., last September. The top two drivers from four Regional Driving Championships advanced to the NDC. McNair finished third in the Ontario Regional at The Raceway at Western Fair District in May, but was presented with a golden opportunity five days in advance of the competition.

Louis-Philippe Roy, who was runner-up in the Ontario Regional, withdrew from the event as a result of racing commitments he wanted to fulfill. McNair was next in line and jumped at the offer. By virtue of four wins in tournament races, he claimed the 2018 NDC title.

Here’s your chance to vote for the design you would like to see Doug wear in the 2019 World Driving Championship in Sweden. There are four different designs to choose from.

The designs are presented below. For a closer look, check them out in this photo gallery.

Voting is open until Sunday, March 3 at 5:00 p.m. (EST) and we’ll announce the results of the online voting on March 5.

The 2019 World Driving Championship takes place from May 24 through May 31. Twelve drivers will compete in 24 races in six legs at five different racetracks in Sweden.
