Harness Racing's Best of the Decade - Sire

WESTERN HANOVER

Harness Racing's Sire Of The Decade

(tied with Muscles Yankee)

This past December, Western Hanover reached a threshold that a minuscule number of horses ever attain. He is now the all-time money-producing sire of all equine breeds. He passed the previous leader, Abercrombie, who had led the list for more than the last decade. Western Hanover is now the sire of the winners of $156,543,228 (U.S.). Three North America Cup winners, multiple Breeders Crown champions and 12 millionaires in this decade. His final crop hits the track as two-year-olds in 2010.

What They Said About Western Hanover:

"Has sired a total 17 millionaires and many of his offspring are proving to be exceptional sires."

- Roy Sproxton, 2009 Trot Canada National Handicapping Champion

"Western Hanover is my pick for the influence of his offspring and the offspring of his sons and daughters."

- Dean Hoffman, U.S. Harness Racing Hall of Famer

"He builds them tough."

- Shannon 'Sugar' Doyle, announcer, Alberta Downs, Evergreen Park, Northlands Park

"He bred many winners, two of which are stamped solidly as super sires, ensuring his greatness lasts for a long time."

- Dean Towers, owner/horseplayer/blogger

"Western Shooter, Well Said, Western Ideal, Hana Hanover, Always Cam, he is just completing the biggest $$ season ever, and has led three times. A great racehorse and an even better stallion. He's credited with over $38 million just SINCE his passing in August 2007. His name will be on racing programs for a long long time."

- Bob Heyden, The Meadowlands

"He did it all and did it without great initial support. Not only are his sons and grandsons making an impact, but it appears that his great grandson Rocknroll Hanover is destined to be an epic sire. If there is harness racing a hundred years from now, you won't find a pacer without his blood flowing through their veins."

- Murray Brown, Publicity Director, Hanover Shoe Farms
