Harness Tracks of America has announced that its art auction and College Scholarship Fund has received a giant boost with the addition of nine original paintings and drawings by George Ford Morris consigned to the sale.
The collection, including seven exquisite oil paintings, are of celebrated harness horses of the past. The oils include Messenger, his sire Mambrino, Electioneer, Axtell, Greyhound, Dan Patch, and Blackhawk and Lady Suffolk, and a superb charcoal of Justin Morgan.
The paintings are from the estate of Sandra Van Buren, wife of former harness racing executive Bill Van Buren, and are likely to represent the largest single sales consignment in the 31 years of the HTA Scholarship Art Auction.
George Ford Morris works are highly sought by collectors, and a collection of this magnitude almost never appears on the market.
