ATAQ Meeting On Monday

The Quebec horsemen’s association (ATAQ) is convening its members to a special meeting Monday intended to provide the executive with clear directions for future dealings with racetrack operator Attractions Hippiques.

Currently in creditor protection, Attractions Hippiques is proposing a 2009 calendar offering a total of $4 million in purses (down from $13 million this year) for all the Quebec tracks, one racing card a week through the winter, and summertime racing only at Hippodrome de Montreal, ATAQ president Michel St. Louis said.

“I need a mandate from my horsemen, telling me what path they want me to take,” he said.

The meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Hotel Ruby Foo’s, just across from Hippodrome de Montreal.
