Trois Rivieres Program In Question

Trot Insider has learned that there is some question about whether this Sunday's added racecard at Sulky Trois Rivieres will indeed proceed.

Richard Veilleux, an Executive Board member of ATAQ (Quebec's Horseman's Association), says that with Attractions Hippiques not offering racing at its tracks in Québec, Aylmer and Montréal, the company is faced with the possibility it won't have the required number of dates to continue next year.

"They need to reach the magic number of 50 programs to keep their license valid and continue in 2009," said Veilleux. ATAQ believes that if Attractions Hippiques reaches that number, the total purse pool in 2009 will be $4 million.

Veilleux says that Attractions Hippiques will reach its 49th racecard on December 15th.

"If horses are not entered after that date, we will reach 49 programs and Attractions Hippiques will have to respect its contract and go back to do its homework with the government and with the SONACC to find a way to save our profession," said Veilleux.
