A major money milestone was celebrated by Armbro Chronicle on Monday evening, as the hard-hitting trotter surpassed the million dollar mark with a win in the $50,000 Open Trot at Woodbine Racetrack
.
Mike Saftic worked out a beautiful pocket trip for Armbro Chronicle, who tracked pacesetter Please Poppy through hot panels of :26.1, :55.4 and 1:24.4. The Kent Baker-trained son of Self Possessed got up in the final strides to haul down Please Poppy en route to the 1:53.1 victory. Mystical Ryan was third.
“I’ve never had a horse make a million dollars before,” said co-owner/trainer Kent Baker. “I’ve had a lot of nice horses before, so this is pretty special. We’ve never left Ontario with him, he’s got a stake for $50,000 around here every week.”
Baker shares ownership on the one-eyed wonder, who was a $9,000 purchase from the 2003 Northern Yearling Sale, with partners Cal Patterson, Wayne Smith and Randy Fielder. The seven-year-old gelding, who was an O’Brien Award finalist for Canada’s Older Trotting Horse of the Year in 2008, has banked $1,014,892 to date.
