Kawartha Downs Race Secretary Jim Huck and horsemen Gord Brown, Rod Hughes and others have gone on the record regarding the track's decision to temporarily race on Mondays instead of Thursdays
.
Everyone seems to be in agreement that it is a positive move.
"So many other tracks were simulcast with us on Thursday and at this time it is also home night for the Peterborough Petes," Huck has been quoted as saying in an article by The Peterborough Examiner. "There was too much going on and betting was down at the track. On Monday, we are simulcast with only one other track, Woodbine, which is good for us. It's a great night because there just isn't much going on. We're not involved with about four or five other tracks. We hope to see an increase in people coming out and betting on Mondays."
"Going to Monday nights is good because change is good," Hughes said. "It's good to create the awareness and get people's attention. It should improve betting on this night. All around, it's very positive for Kawartha Downs."
"I really hope it helps the track. I like it because I race in Ottawa four days a week and this is good," Brown was quoted as saying. "Monday is perfect for me and fits into my schedule. I'm really happy with Mondays. The move is all positive, nothing negative. If it helps the track, it helps us, it helps everybody."

Great idea!!!! I pretty
Great idea!!!! I pretty well do all of my wagering from home now. With Weston Fair racing at four o'clock, the only local track racing in the evening is Woodbine. With my distain for the drag-strip racing that the big track offers, I will surely be taking in Kawartha.

Yep, looks to me like a great move, kudos to the management for at least trying something new, I'll give them that. I can only hope the schoolbuses were loaded bringing folks to the one armed bandits to keep the place going because no other business could survive that is in the red each and every race day.

please remember that the one
please remember that the one armed bandits being there is a negotiated arrangement.
Their portion of the purse pool is the price they paid to move into racetracks and cut into the horsemens
gaming revenue, a fact that many would like to conveniently forget.
These changes could be good.
These changes could be good. During the week I never understood afternoon posts, the bulk of people work during the day, I like the later post time.
I see Northfield has dropped their takeout to 14%.
That is what the bettors want.
Well I personally feel it is
Well I personally feel it is a huge mistake.
They are going head to head with Woodbine and Bet Night Live.
What on earth was wrong with Tuesday afternoons at 4pm.
Or even a Wednesday Night when Woodbine is dark.
All you have to do is look at the bet pools and I rest
my case.
