Randy Waples raised eyebrows when he started regularly driving at Windsor Raceway this Fall. Waples' increased workload was, as it turns out, raising money for a worthwhile cause
.
Since Windsor's meet started near the end of September, Waples committed to make the trek down Hwy. 401 with the intention of donating a percentage of his purse winnings at Windsor to a charity of his choice.
After two months of drives at Windsor in which the blue-and-gold clad reinsman won 24 of 83 starts for a 0.417 win percentage, Waples donated $2,600 to the Windsor Food Bank.
With a month and a half left on the 2010 harness racing calendar, Waples sits atop the WEG drivers' standings with 245 wins and more than $6.1 million in purses.

Congrats Randy. Not only
Congrats Randy. Not only does this sport need more positive press like this, but with recent events in Windsor, a class act such as yourself is much needed there. Great job buddy
I'm getting ready to put
I'm getting ready to put this on my facebook and anyone who can spread the word about this story - should do so. Refreshing to see something positive and uplifting in the sport and just in time for the holidays! This isn't the first time Randy has given back to the community and I'm guessing it won't be the last! Go Randy!!! Hope other "stars" in our sport will be inspired!
I just hope the newspapers
I just hope the newspapers cover this. Usually they just cover suspensions and all the other negative things. way to go Randy
Randy has given more to the
Randy has given more to the community of windsor in 3 months than the racetrack has in the past 5 years

Fill the Food Bank shelves, Randy ... hope you're driving one of those electric cars ;-) haha
Randys mere presence, and
Randys mere presence, and soft hands have kicked some life into the Windsor Sunday handle. Can never figure why most tracks fail to prmote their stars. The drivers are your players, use their faces and personality to mutual advantage. Most drivers are engaging and appreciate the exposure.
He seems like a solid guy
He seems like a solid guy and he's always very interesting to listen to when he is interviewed on The Score. Great job Randy!!
I met Randy at Truro Raceway
I met Randy at Truro Raceway appx 5 years ago. I just wanted to ask him a question about a horse him and his Dad once owned that I had here in the maritimes. He talked to me like we knew each other forever. I couldn't believe for someone as busy as he is, how he spent so much time with me. I will never forget that day and wish him and his family the best. No surprise to me at all that he is so generous.
Well done Randy, class act!

That Waples is more than
That Waples is more than just a big mouth and a pretty face! ;)
Randy has consistently, for the past several years, pledged thousands for numerous charitable organizations local to many Ontario tracks. From a racetrack operator's perspective, it is lovely, personalized gesture that bodes very well for the racetrack, and the industry as a whole within the local community. It puts a face on the sport within a positive and sincere context, and we can always use more of that!

"You da' man Randy!!!"
"You da' man Randy!!!" Talented, funny, and very compassionate...... It makes Harness Fans like myself proud to boast about what a great Industry it really is..... we need more 'good feeling' stories like this. Being a former Windsorite, I am aware of the need for the support you are offering in these hard economic times. The only problem I now have as a fan is betting against you at the Track as you are a 'real Winner, always'... thank you.......
Good for Randy!! I watch
