Unfortunately, there is nothing that we or anyone else outside of New Jersey can do to help the Meadowlands' situation.
The Big M needs slots to survive and prosper and it doesn't even appear to be on the government's table. it is strictly a New Jersey political problem and it looks like the horse racing industry is being tossed aside.
Problems like this have to be dealt with as strongly and as intelligently as possible by industry groups, horsemens' groups and all individual horsepeople long before things get to this disastrous stage. Losing the Big M is a huge disaster for harness racing, probably more devastating than we can imagine. All we can do now is learn from this, be proactive and do everything that we can at home to make sure that tragedies like this don't happen in the provinces and states where the purses are good.
Here in Ontario, some good efforts are being made by WEG and some other tracks, COSA, Standardbred Canada, etc. and there is reason for some optimism. This is going to be a long, tough battle for us in the harness racing business to maintain our prosperity and these tracks and industry groups need our support more than ever.
