Cantabs all around

I spoke with a prominent person in the sport on Monday who raved about all the talented sons and daughters of Cantab Hall he'd seen in Florida recently.

I have---and he has---no interest in Cantab Hall, so this is objective and he knows a good horse from a bad one. He mentioned several Cantabs that he found particularly impressive.

"They're all good gaited and just about anyone can train one," he told me. "They have a good attitude, although every once in a while you might see the Self Possessed come out in a filly and she'll pin her ears."

Of course, after the successful first crop by Cantab, no one should be surprised that he's got another group of likely prospects to send to the races.

The luster is definitely off Andover Hall, it seems. How quickly we forget. Trainers couldn't wait to bid on Andover Hall yearlings a couple years ago and now he's taken a couple steps back. But that's the horse biz: you're only as good as your last winner.
