Camluck and Angus Hall rule the roost

The 2009 racing season is past the quarter pole and the leading sires in the sport are the pacer Camluck and the trotter Angus Hall.

That doesn’t come as a surprise to anyone, of course, because they’ve been at or near the top before. And we all know that leading a race at the quarter pole doesn’t get you the trophy. It’s where you finish on December 31 that counts.

Nevertheless, I think you can expect Camluck and Angus Hall to cling to their leads for a long time. They have plenty of aged performers piling up earnings for them now and their colts and fillies will start to shine in the stakes as the weather gets warmer.

Camluck has a substantial lead with Western Hanover, Cams Card Shark, Bettors Delight and Real Artist fighting it out for second place. Like any horse race, the further the season goes, we’ll see different rankings.

Angus Hall is far ahead of SJs Photo, who holds second place, while Muscles Yankee, Striking Sahbra, and Conway Hall round out the top five among trotters.

Both Camluck and Angus Hall were runners-up in the North American sires list in 2008 as Western Hanover edged Camluck among pacing stallions and Muscles Yankee took the trotting title.
