A half-dozen for Moni Maker

Did you see that Moni Maker had her sixth filly recently? Wonder what the odds are on that happening? I guess it wouldn’t difficult to figure because she’s got a 50-50 chance of getting a filly each time. But six in a row?

This one is by Cantab Hall, the brilliant young Hanover stallion. Each one of her foals has been by a different stallion.

Moni Maker, of course, is a daughter of the immortal Speedy Crown and her latest foal is from by a stallion from the Valley Victory line. Her first foal was by Valley Victory, her third foal by his grandson Self Possessed, and now her 2008 by Cantab Hall, a son of Self Possessed.

Moni Maker’s had two foals by stallions from the Super Bowl male line: her current 2-year-old by Credit Winner and a yearling by his son Chocolatier.

She’s had one foal by Conway Hall, a Garland Lobell stallion.

A noted horseman who spends a lot of time watching young horses go in circles at Florida training centers told me not long ago that Moni Maker’s 2-year-old by Credit winner is her best one yet. This filly’s name is Nothing But Moni, so keep that name in mind.

Moni Maker’s first foal was Touch Of Moni by Valley Victory. She won three of her four starts as a 2-year-old, including a 1:57.1 win, but didn’t race back as a 3-year-old. She has 2-year-old son by Cantab Hall.

Moni Maker’s second foal was Live Moni by Conway Hall. She didn’t race, but has a yearling colt by Chocolatier.

Her third foal was All Our Moni by Self Possessed. She won a non-winners of one last year as a 3-year-old at the Meadowlands in 1:56.2, but trainer Jimmy Takter put up Mike Lachance in a time trial last year and she nabbed a 1:54.4 badge.

Moni Maker left a wonderful legacy on the track and it appears that she will leave plenty of daughters to carry on her legacy in pedigrees.
